Understanding Sleep And Hibernate Power Settings On Your Computer
by: Eve Larson
New computers come with two new power settings that may be unfamiliar to many people. The settings known as ?sleep? and ?hibernate? may sound fun and playful but can actually be powerful tools to extend the life of your computer, give your laptop a longer battery life, and waste less energy. Let?s take a look at how to get the most use out of these new settings.
Let?s say you?re going to lunch, a meeting, or going to run some errands, but will be coming back to use your computer in a few hours. You might want to turn your computer off so it doesn?t waste electricity, but your ?computer guy? (or girl) told you it?s dangerous to turn your computer on and off all the time, so what do you do? This would be a perfect time to use the ?sleep mode? on your computer. When you tell your computer to go to sleep, it turns off the monitor, stops the disk drives and saves its current state into memory. When you return, just touch your mouse or keyboard and your computer quickly wakes up, and you?re exactly where you left off.
What if you?re going to be away from your computer for a longer period of time but will be coming back relatively soon? This is when you should use the hibernate mode. Think of hibernate is a deeper state of sleep. In hibernate mode your monitor is shut off, hard disks are stopped and your state is saved. A major difference between sleep and hibernate is power consumption. In sleep mode your computer is in a very low power state, and can wake up quickly. In hibernate mode your computer isn?t using any power so it takes longer to warm up.
Some other tips you should keep in mind are always save your existing work before going into sleep or hibernate modes. Occasionally the computer will fail to wake up and you will lose any unsaved data. Laptop owners should also remember sleep uses power and will eventually drain the battery.

Do The Differences In CPUs Really Matter?
Do The Differences In CPUs Really Matter?
by: Ryan Larson
CPU manufacturing is one of the most competitive areas of computer world. In the end, the overall performance of your laptop or your desktop depends on your central processing unit. Parallel to the demands of the users, we can say that CPUs traveled a long way from 386s to P4s and AMDs.
The cache is generally the most decisive factor in the tradeoff equation between the price and performance. Considering the L2 cache on some of the chips, you can easily understand that Athlon, P4 and PIII, having 256K or more L2 cache are the once with higher performance, in other words power chips.
Looking at the budget chips, you immediately notice that Celeron has 128K and the Duron only has 64K. Celeron is actually almost like a PIII with half the cache disabled. These numbers shows that the main budget issue for CPU manufacturers is to put enough cash on the chip.
You should consider the...

How To Upgrade Your PC
by: Alex Fir
Before you upgrade your PC hardware it?s best to search all options and ask for advice. Only after this you can go and buy a new component. It?s also useful to check if you really need an upgrade.
Do not upgrade your very old PC because it would cost a lot of money. It?s cheaper to buy a new computer in such cases because they are easier to upgrade later.
Upgrading the hard drive:
The majority of people do not really need to upgrade their hard disk, unless they use it for playing a lot of music, movies, and games. A 20 GB hard drive is sufficient to keep new office and internet applications, and all your files and data.
A medium sized hard drive would be around 40 GB and the maximum would be around 60 ? 80 GB.
Before upgrading your hard disk it?s best to do a complete disk checkup including disk scan, defragmentation, etc. If you happen to be an average user and need more...

Keyboard Power: Using Your Computer Even if Your Mouse ?Dies?
by: Ismael D. Tabije
There are various accessories that could help operating a computer easier. The mouse is just an example of an accessory which makes navigation simple with just one click. However, most of these accessories have short ?lifespan? and can be considered disposable. This is when the accessories can become bothersome.
What are you to do, when in the middle of an important document, your mouse decides to ?die?? Would you worry? Would you panic and run to the nearest store? What if it?s night time and the stores are closed and you are rushing up your work?
On your keyboard, immediately press CTRL + S simultaneously to save whatever it is you?re doing. That way, you don?t lose your work. This is a common and one of the most familiar tasks without using the mouse. If the mouse is not functioning and you need to do something important but you don?t have the time to...

Misspelling On Ebay ? Use It To Your Advantage
by: Thomas Haselhorst
In the ongoing quest to find great deal on eBay or even to find items you can flip, one of the interesting approaches is by looking for misspelled items. One of the most common misspellings was ?labtop? for ?laptop?. This misspelling is so common that some people listing laptops actually use the word ?labtop? in their title. Check it out.
You know the topics you are interested in. Look at how the word can be misspelled. For instance, if needlepoint is your passion, try searching for ?needlepoint? or ?needlepoint?. It is more than likely that you will find a few items under these misspellings. Even better ? for you ? these items will not have bids on them because people looking for needlepoint will not find these.
As an experiment, I went and tried this just now and found 13 items and not one of these had an eBay bid. Some were from the same eBay seller. You could watch...
